EMAS is a forces-friendly employer

We hold a Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). The scheme recognises employers who:

  • pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to the Armed Forces community, and
  • align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement for organisations who support and advocate for the Armed Forces community, including Reservists, Service Leavers, Cadets, Cadet Volunteers, Military Spouses, and Military Families.

We are also accredited as Veteran Aware through the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), in recognition of our support for ex-forces personnel in their employment and the wider community.

Michelle banner.png"I’d received a high standard of training in emergency care in the Navy, so I started my career at EMAS as a direct-entry Ambulance Technician.

EMAS has continued to support my professional development. In 2019, I graduated from Coventry University with a Foundation Degree in Paramedic Science. I’m now a proud EMAS Paramedic. I've recently completed another qualification in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care. This training will support me for years to come as I specialise and progress my career.

One of the best parts about working for EMAS – and the reason it works for me – is the balance between work, family, and study. I’ve been encouraged to develop and learn. I’ve also been supported to work flexibly for my family."

Our current projects and priorities

We are actively developing our Armed Forces programme, including:

  • Tailored recruitment support to Armed Forces leavers. We guarantee interviews for Veterans and serving Reservist and Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers who meet the minimum essential criteria.
  • Paid time off for Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers to attend annual camps.

  • Protecting time for reservists on mobilisation for operations.

  • Honorary contracts for registered Paramedics and supportive mentoring for Newly Qualified Paramedics from the Armed Forces.
  • Work experience opportunities for service leavers and ex-service personnel.
  • Aligning our work with Op CourageOp Nova, and Op Fortitude.

  • Expanding our Armed Forces Network.

Partnership working

EMAS is committed to supporting ongoing work that benefits the Armed Forces community.

We work in partnership with:

Simon Gould banner.png“I joined EMAS as a Patient Care Assistant because it’s a uniformed public service with a clear purpose, rank structure and opportunities to progress.

The job requires focus and discipline, and I also get to travel around the county and meet patients from all walks of life.

Without us, many patients would struggle to access medical appointments or get the treatment they need to recover from serious illness. Some people have a lot of anxiety about attending hospital, but we help them to feel at ease.

I know my job is hugely worthwhile and I make a difference to people’s lives every day.”
