Former British time trial champion Graham Huck sustained multiple life-threatening injuries after being involved in a collision while taking part in the North Midlands Veterans Cycling Club 25 mile bike ride on 16 July on the A1 just outside Long Bennington, Nottinghamshire.
Paramedic Nichola Haywood was first on scene and found Graham unconscious on the road. She recognised that his injuries were life threatening and he needed to go to hospital as soon as possible; she was quickly backed up by Technician Andy Watson. Graham was taken to Queens Medical Centre where he was diagnosed with a punctured lung, a broken pelvis, seven broken ribs, a broken sternum and collarbone.
Today Graham and wife Christine were reunited with Nichola and Andy at Retford Ambulance Station. Graham said “I have wanted to meet them both and say thank you and it’s great to finally do that. Andy and Nichola were amazing and saved my life.”
Nichola Haywood said " I have been with the ambulance service for 20 years and this is the first time I have been involved in a reunion and its lovely, sometimes its nice to get closure on the jobs we attend."
