Michael Govier, from Bracebridge, Lincoln was cycling home to his partner and 13 month old baby on 29 July when he was hit by a car at the Doddington Junction after the weather had taken a turn for the worse.
Due to the nature of Michael's life-threatening injuries EMAS crew Steven Reid, paramedic and David Tomlinson, emergency care assistant were on scene in less than two minutes after the 999 call was made, followed by the air ambulance a few minutes later.
Michael sustained critical injuries to his head and was medically induced into a coma on scene, this allowed staff to control his breathing for him. Due to heavy rain the air ambulance was unable to fly and Michael was rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) via ambulance. This treatment was followed by a week long stay in the QMC.
Today Michael, partner Gemma and son Evelyn were reunited with Steve and David at Lincoln Ambulance Station.
Michael said: “I just wanted to extend my thanks to everybody involved. If it wasn’t for you and your expertise I would not be watching my son grow up, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. It has been good to piece together all of what happened on the day and say thank you in person, a thank you will never be enough in my opinion.”
