Paramedics, ambulance crews, educators, volunteers and incredible teams were all recognised for their inspiring dedication to our patients on Monday night at the EMAS Reward and Recognition event.
The awards event took place at the King Power Stadium in Leicester and was a night to honour staff who have gone above and beyond for each other and their patients, to hear their brave stories and to recognise their commitment to upholding the EMAS values.
After receiving hundreds of nominations, our judging panel had the hard task of whittling the nominations down to those who stood out for their actions, with both winners and highly commended receiving recognition on the evening.
While the awards were an opportunity for achievements to be celebrated, it was also a chance for our Chief Executive, Richard Henderson, and Chairman, Karen Tomlinson, to say thank you to staff for the continuous hard work and commitment they show to patients across the East Midlands.
They were joined by special guests including the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire Michael Kapur OBE and High Sheriff of Leicestershire Mehmooda Duke with us for the evening to help us present some of the awards, as well as some of our event sponsors.
Chief Executive at East Midlands Ambulance Service, Richard Henderson said:
“It continues to be clear to me that despite the sustained, significant challenges and pressures faced, there is so much to be proud of at EMAS, and that every role across the organisation adds to the collective response to support people in need – it is likely that our actions will be remembered for a lifetime.”

Chief Executive’s Commendation:
- Ashley Knights (Northamptonshire) for his tireless work and huge contribution to provide quality education and support to leaders and staff.
- Charlotte Armitage (Leicestershire) for rescuing a patient from a burning property.
- James Windross (Leicestershire) who despite witnessing a terrible road traffic collision and suffering injury himself, immediately went to the aid of other patients on scene.
- Michael O’Ryan (Nottinghamshire) for treating crew members on scene at traumatic events with respect, involving them in decision-making, and providing valued reassurance and support.
- Nick Brown (Nottinghamshire) for the fast response he gave to a tragic incident involving his friend and colleague, and for the professional and emotional support offered to family, friends and colleagues in the weeks and months that followed.
- Samantha Westwell-Winter (Derbyshire) for the kindness, time, and advice offered over an eighteen-month period to support a colleague in need.
- Simon Parry (Nottinghamshire) – for saving the life of a women located in a burning block of flats.
The awards were entirely funded via the EMAS Charitable Funds and through generous sponsorship provided by several organisations including our main event sponsor Vehicle Conversion Specialists.
