This will be the second Christmas in a row that ambulance technician Emma Frith has sacrificed turkey and tinsel for time with her 999 colleagues.

The 28-year-old from Lincoln will be spending Christmas day with the crews based at Grantham ambulance station.

She said: “I feel like it’s really important that my colleagues who have children get the opportunity to be at home with them over Christmas, so I’m happy to work.

“Most of my family are key workers, and my partner’s in the police, so they understand, and it wouldn’t really have been a normal Christmas this year anyway.

“Everyone understands that it’s part and parcel of the job. My partner and I will just have a different Christmas Day when we are both off.”

Emma, who began working for EMAS in 2018, also worked last Christmas Day and said she really enjoyed the experience.

“I think everyone’s a bit nicer. They appreciate you a bit more at that time of the year and recognise that you are giving up time with your family.”
