Graham Gough, joined EMAS in 2019, shared what he enjoyed most.

"As a retired teacher, I was wondering what I could do with all the spare time I now had, so I decided to join EMAS in 2019 and ever since I have been driving patients in and around Derbyshire hospitals. My late mother had used the service, and it appealed to me as a way of giving something back to the community and supporting our NHS."

"The role is a vital part of patient services, and I am proud to be part of a voluntary team that has at its heart support for non-emergency patients travelling to and from hospital appointments. It is a very rewarding role and the service we provide is much valued by the patients who use the service."

"The best part of the job is meeting new people and being able to put them at ease on their journey to an appointment. You meet people from all walks of life and at times in their lives when they are at their most vulnerable. I take pride in my role ensuring that the patients receive a really good service, and it is a very satisfying way to spend my spare time. That can be a few hours a week or a lot more if you want to. There is always high demand for our services."

Want to be part of the team? We’re now recruiting volunteer car drivers for Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire to support the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service. More details can be found on EMAS website
