This year, World Restart a Heart Day is going virtual – with our experts ready to teach you – how to save a life from wherever you are in the region – whether at home or at school.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, our usual events in schools and in public across the country have had to be put on hold.

However, you can still learn to save a life this Restart A Heart Day – all you need is a cushion, a scrunched up coat, and some floor space to learn how to do CPR.

At 11am on Friday, 16 October, one of our #EMAZING Community Response Team at East Midlands Ambulance Service will teach CPR live on our official EMAS Facebook page

The video will then be available on our Facebook page for followers to catch up in their own time.

World Restart a Heart Day is an annual event  organised through the joint effort of leading UK charities, schools, the NHS, volunteers, members of the public and the emergency services, including the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the British Heart Foundation, who continue to  donate free training kits to those secondary schools taking part.

Mick Barnett-Connolly, Head of Community Response, Collaboration and Engagement at EMAS said: “If someone suffers a cardiac arrest outside of hospital, their chances of survival increase considerably if a bystander starts CPR immediately.

“Although this year’s Restart a Heart Day will look a bit different, together we are still committed to growing the network of lifesavers across the East Midlands by equipping students and members of the public with a life-skill.”

“Whether young or old, everyone can join in and learn this vital skill which might enable them to one day save the life of a total stranger or someone they know. So remember, tell your friends and family, tune in and be part of something special this Restart a Heart Day at 11am on Friday 16 October 2020.”
