Our holiday hero today is Lauren Way.

While many of us will be relaxing over the festive break, Team Leader Lauren will be working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year.

“This Christmas, I shall be working Christmas Day with my team as we work our last night shift of our set on Christmas Eve. Then I shall be working over the New Year! I really enjoy working over the festive season as we really do come together as a team!”

Lauren has worked at East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) for over two years, starting as an Emergency Medical Advisor (EMA) and working her way up to a Senior EMA. She now works as a Team Leader alongside our fantastic EMAs to support them in their role of answering 999 calls.

Lauren understands that Christmas can be a difficult time for some people, and she does what she can to help.

“Christmas can be such a hard time for many people, so just being able to be a voice at the end of the phone for someone can really be a comfort.

“My dad worked in the NHS and worked many Christmases when I was young. To be able to follow in his footsteps and be there for the East Midlands is a fantastic feeling!”

It can be difficult to sacrifice the Christmas period to work, so let's give a big thank you to Holiday Hero, Lauren.
