Dedicated volunteers who spend their spare time helping EMAS and saving lives across the East Midlands have been selected by the new Mayor of Broxtowe to be one of his chosen charities.

Councillor Derek Burnett BEM, Mayor for Broxtowe 2018/19, has selected the charities he would like to support for his year in office, and EMAS Community First Responders (CFRs) has been chosen.

Throughout the year, the Mayor will hold charity events to raise money for the CFRs including a charity auction, a sponsored golf tournament and a charity ball.

Derek explained that the CFRs are close to his heart as he has been a Level 3 Responder for the Nuthall and District CFRs since 2012, volunteers for around 2,000 hours a year and is the co-ordinator for the scheme.

He said: “The money raised throughout the year will help to pay for life-saving equipment for the CFRs, such as defibrillators, oxygen tanks and bandages.

“If it enables a CFR to save just one life, then it will all be worth it.”

We would like to thank Derek for selecting our CFRs as one of his charities along with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.
