Paramedics providing medical cover at the Champions League match at the King Power Stadium in Leicester last night were alerted at 8.45pm to a fan in the stands who was unconscious and not breathing. Two of our  ambulance crews reached the patient within minutes and recognised he was in cardiac arrest. We worked closely with members of St John Ambulance to resuscitate the patient who was then conveyed to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The EMAS events team provide paramedic cover and expertise for large events such as rock concerts, rugby and football matches, and horse racing, which is funded by the event organisers.

Note for reporter: We do not have any further information about the outcome of the patient as he was left in the care of Leicester Royal Infirmary, but we hope that he will have a positive outcome.

More information about requesting paramedic cover is available here.
