Three staff members have been recognised for going above and beyond to help patients during the severe weather earlier this year.
Members of the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum (LRF), which is a multi-agency group that works together in emergency situations, were so touched by some of the tales of people, from members of the public to colleagues in the emergency services, battling the weather that they decided to honour them.
To celebrate these people the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum are holding an awards evening on 17 May at Hemswell Court in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.
Our colleagues; Paramedic James Olgesby, Technician Phil Lane and Emergency Medical Dispatcher Lucy Channer were not only shortlisted for the ‘Emergency Services Group’ award but they have won it!
James, Phil and Lucy were nominated for the award by Sarah Anderton, from Grantham.
Sarah was on her way to hospital on 28 February, with her husband Gareth, when her contractions became stronger and their car became stuck on the A1.
Gareth was worried his wife would not make it to the hospital and called 999.
Our staff worked together to ensure they could reach Sarah and ensure their baby boy Arlo was delivered safely. Arlo was welcomed into the world in the back of James and Phil’s ambulance.

Technician Phil Lane was honored and thrilled when he received the news.
He added: “We don’t do this job for praise or recognition, so when a patient takes the time to say thank you we really appreciate it. For Sarah to nominate us for this award is very humbling. It was a challenging job but a positive outcome for everybody.”
Alison Crowe, Senior Manager in our Emergency Operations Centre, said: “It was amazing news to hear that the team had been nominated for an award but to know that they have also won is a fabulous achievement. It is great to see that Lucy, one of our 999 call handlers is receiving recognition for her commendable actions in obtaining as much information as possible for our dispatchers to guide the ambulance crew to the right location, as well as trying to keep Sarah calm.”
