Thanks to the generous support of NHS Charities which gave us a grant of £50,000, we have been able to supply refreshments to our very busy colleagues throughout this winter at no charge to them.
Supplies were sent to numerous ambulance stations and hot drinks vans situated outside Emergency Departments at hospitals across the East Midlands region over Christmas and New Year.
The catering businesses who provided these refreshments were also very flexible in their approach to providing us with their services which enabled us to reach as many of our staff as possible and refuel them with hot drinks and snacks before attending their next patient.
Ben Holdaway, Director of Operations at EMAS said: “My heartfelt thanks go to NHS Charities for providing us with their generous donation, making it possible for us to fund this initiative to show our staff we appreciate their commitment during these challenging times.
“All of our colleagues have been working non-stop throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to continue providing outstanding care for the patients that need us.
“Staff are very tired due to the rising number of COVID-related 999 calls, as well as the expected increased demand on our service during winter, but despite this they have shown exceptional dedication to being there for our patients.
“Without their commitment, loyalty and hard work we would not be providing the service we are, so I thank each and every one of them too.”
