A Community First Responder from Wymeswold, Leicestershire, has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to his community.

Peter Blount, scheme co-ordinator for the Wolds Community Response Scheme was presented the accolade at Leicester County Hall on Friday 4 October.

Peter was nominated for his continuous dedication to his community, where he gives his time and energy to several organisations, having a huge positive impact on the community of Wymeswold.

His nomination said: 

“There is seldom an event in the village where Peter is no part of it, if there is a chair to be stacked or a banner to be put up, he is there. Peter’s key roles are as a volunteer for East Midlands Ambulance Service as a Community First Responder (10 years service covering front line work, work through Covid on the immunisation programme and CPR training in schools and organisations), the Scout Group leader for 140 young people with the 1st Wolds Scout Group and a long serving School Governor and past Chair for Wymeswold Church of England Primary School.

“He is an active Christian and has involvement in St Marys Church and the Methodist Chapel. He organises the Annual Remembrance Day Parade and service each year and is the organiser of a Wymeswold Men's Group. He also volunteers with the Wymeswold Duck Race.”

Peter said it was a a lovely day and very humbling.
